We are DOWNSOUTH – A travel magazine that transforms an image down south, Mindanao. DOWNSOUTH is a magazine that celebrates what the region offers. The journeys about place, experience, people, culture, art, food, authenticity and great photography of what Mindanao is.  It makes a distinction between tourism and travel, and stresses inquisitive not acquisitive trips. It tells stories through photography and inspires readers to pick up and go. With the theme of “Experience Mindanao,” it provides inspiring narratives that makes readers to take trips and solid information to help them plan out those endeavors.
We aim to sell MINDANAO as a place of authenticity.  DOWNSOUTH is a platform establishing and bridging cultures all around Mindanao. More than a travel magazine, it identifies that this region is a place that offers what other regions boast about, and more.

PENS OF HOPE 3RD DISTRIBUTION

My recount of my experience on a pencil distribution day ^.^

Beneficiaries
Pens of Hope in Davao is an outreach program initiated to help address the scarcity of writing materials in the Philippines, particularly in Davao City. The idea, which was originally conceptualized by Nortehanon, a blogger from Northern Samar, is now being implemented by the alumni and existing volunteers of Social Involvement Coordinating Office (SICO), the social arm of Ateneo de Davao University.

And Beyond Art's Sake CEBU) is a movement to bridge the gap between artists, art lovers, and charitable individuals; making art accessible to everyone regardless of financial, social or cultural background. It is a space in the World Wide Web where artworks of amateurs and professionals are placed side by side, towards a common goal of fostering charity, one artwork at a time. It is a group of individuals who are willing to share their time, effort, and resources to give artists a venue to share their artworks, in any form, for the benefit of our countrymen in need. One of the projects they support through art is Nortehanon's Pens of Hope. Many artists contribute their drawings, sell them to art lovers and use the proceeds in buying writing materials.
 See All the artworks.

And Me as ONE of the volunteer of PENS OF HOPE DAVAO. Come up the idea to sale NECKLACE,BANGLES,EARRINGS,DRAWINGS to support the ADVOCACY.

Kraft Cheez Whiz Palamantasan (Health Awareness)

Last July 17,2010 I was privileged to attend the Kraft Cheez Whiz Palamantasan.
A  school eliminations was held in Buhangin Elementary School.
This is only I can show off. I've don't have picture at that time.

Pick-up point Marco Polo Lobby at 11am.
with Ms. Alma Buenviaje,  Events Management and Press Coordinator.
Since it's almost 12:00noon my stomach start to grumble.
I said to my Co-blogger Leah. "May libre bang lunch" (Is there free lunch?")
But I think Leah don't know either.
Coz she didn't utter anyway words. :-)
But my question was answered as we arrive in Buhangin Elementary School.
They serve us delicious dishes, cook with Kraft Cheez Whiz.
At 1st I don't realize how important and meaningful the Event was.
But reality pitch my head off...haha..
My head kinda heavy at that time, because I slept so late at 5am in the Morning.
Trying to finish this abstract painting of mine.

A painting entry for Leah's Valle TYBS Contest.
6:00pm PARTY at the same day for OUTREACH PARTY for PENS OF HOPE DAVAO.

I realize I'm like those kids in PALAMANTASAN.
Trying to do my best in a short span of time. :-)
According to Leah my co-blogger they practice only one week.
Not bad they do their BEST.

The program start around 1:00pm.
With an open prayer express with interpretive dance.
The Cherubim's Doxology
I'm amaze with their talents, very uncommon prayer. :-)

Ms. Alma Buenviaje, the head organizer of the event informed us that the Palamantasan school eliminations is a nationwide activity of Kraft Foods in cooperation with Dep Ed. Ms. Buenviaje also informed us,that a similar activity is happening in Cebu at the same.

Campaign to raise awareness about Nutrition Education would be done through various creative outlets through a nationwide inter-school competition.
This campaign will run till September 2010.

Buhangin Elemntary School  ang pinakaunang  iskwelahan dito sa Davao City para sa ganitong activity.  Si Mr. Arturo dela Cruz, principal sa nasabing iskwelahan "He said school was static for the privilege of having his school chosen for this event.

 Mr. Paulo Serrano
He said "Walong milyon mga bata sa Pilipinasang wala sa tamang taas at tamang timbang" (eight million kids in the Philippines are not of the right weight and height).

Mr. Paulo Serrano

Di tayo nalalayo sa Africa in terms of malnutrition and will most likely suffer the way they are suffering now pag-ito ay di nasusolutionan.

I remember the cheering compositions  that I join in our school when I'm still in Elementary.Mmmm.....I remember those days...Even if under the Sun,and dusky field....

Kraft Food Philippines states that “School is the second home where the children learn basic lessons and values”. This is precisely the reason why nutrition education targets not just educational but enjoyable ways in learning these concepts through inter-school and nationwide competitions.

May game trivia din.
Ang unang tanong ay: "Ayon sa food pyramid, ano dapat ang pinakarami na ikunsumo ng mga tao?" (According to the food pyramid, what should people consume the most).

I'm so HAPPY personally I was privileged to attend  such inspiring and meaningful event.

To the students, Teachers, and Organizers -- CONGRATS a job well done.
